Sunrise in Dobczyce

I got up very early to fish at the sunrise on Raba. 

When I arrived to Dobczyce, it was 4:40 and still dark. I waited a little bit when the sun gets higher.


The fish wasn't cooperative. I only got one small/medium brown trout.  Still better than zero.


Morning hours are spectacular.  Fishing wasn't very good, but I like the atmosphere.

Dunajec - lower special C&R section

Dunajec river is familiar to everybody who ever heard of fly fishing in Poland. Special part "OS Dunajec" near the city Krościenko nad Dunajcem is one of the top destinations, known outside of Poland. Recently, second catch and release part opened. This is 5 km long section from bridge in town Gołkowice to the weir near Stary Sącz. Unlike first "OS Dunajec", which is fly fishing only, this section also allows spin fishing. Same regulations as for fly fishermen - artifical lures must have single barbless hooks, or hooks with crushed barbs. PZW (Polish Angling Association ) in Nowy Sącz launched electronic shop for fishing licenses , where it's possible to buy day card, multi-day or other types of licenses. Also, service available in English, which is a big step forward. Vah - river of big fish

This weekend I spent two days in Slovak river Vah, near city Ruzomberok. Vah is the longest river in Slovakia. Catch-and-Release fishery in town Besenova is famous fly fishing destination. It's a 3 km long part of the river from Besenova lake dam to the bridge in village Ivachnova.  There are few accomodations near the river, including hotels and private apartments. I booked a small hotel in Ruzomberok, 8 km from fishing site. Early in the morning, I arrived to the license shop in Ivachnova. It opens at 7.00 in summer time. I met there Czech and Polish anglers, also waiting for license.  Vah is quite popular destination for foreigners from nearest countries. I bought licenses for 2 days (20 euro per day), and started in the middle of the C&R part, where the road follows right bank. Wisła - Mother of Polish rivers

Wisła is the biggest and longest Polish river. With it's wideness, depth and slow flow it's considered not fly fishing friendly. But, there are interesting spots near Kraków, where's river is shallow enough for wading, and there are some riffles and fast runs too. My goal was to find a place for practicing double hand rod. If there's fish , it would be nice to catch something too. In this particular place, there's island in the middle. During low water (181 cm , 32 m3/s) it's possible to cross from right bank to the island. Good access for fishing left side channel is from the island. There's fast water near the left bank (cliff), and deeper and slow hole near the island. I tried my freshly tied streamers without success. There's a fish called Asp (Aspius aspius), predatory fish of carp family. It's unofficially called "Polish tarpon".
