Holidays on Dunajec, Part 1: Fight with algae

On 12-14 of May, I planned a holiday trip to Dunajec river. I booked a room at "Fly Fishing in Poland" hotel, and invited a friend from Warszaw, Jaroslav.

We arrived to the river at 8:00. Water was 207 cm and 50m3/s at Krościenko nad Dunajcem.

First we started to fish at Gołkowice. I and Yaroslav both caught one small trout.  But the fishing was complicated by conditions. The river carried a lot of algae pieces, and that green nasty stuff attached to the hooks on each retrieve.   We walked down the river to the next site "Bania w Mostkach", without success. No fish takes. Then we moved to the next point downstream - a rapids at Stary Sącz. Here I got another fish, also small one. We decided to change locaton and headed to the upper part of the river, another 30 km.

Here I got bored quickly, because fish didn't take. Jaroslav got two fish above me.  It was very hot weather, and not easy for fishing. We both got our faces burned to red color.

We are tired, and decided to go to the restaurant and have a lunch.  But shortly stopped on another spot, along the road. There's deep pool with slow current, usually it has a lot of fish in it.  Unfortunately, I have only one fish there.

Dunajec usually famous for it's big brown trout, but today we had only small fish.

Also, algae driven me mad.  You need to clean your hooks on every cast, or fish will not take. That can be a reason why we had only few fish.

First day of fishing wasn't very successful.  Also, water rose a bit - in the middle of the day it was 210 cm and 54 m3/s.

But for tomorrow we booked a guiding session, so we had a hope for better results.
