Adventures of fly angler in Poland

7-8 July there was fly fishing festival, organized by Polish fly fishing magazine "Sztuka łowenia na sztuczną muchę" (The art of fly fishing). Program of the festival for 7.08 included: -Introduction by Mirek Pieślak, chief editor of Sztuka Łowenia magazine. -Demonstration of fishing equipment and other goods from sponsors (Loop, Scierra, Traper, Orvis, Winston, Simms, Royal Wulff, Patagonia), by fly shops salar.pl , harius.pl , flyhouse.pl . 13 May I attended meeting of "I Love DH" movement enthusiasts. It was on the parking in Nowa Wieś.  There was grill, tables, drinks, and tackle demonstration provided by Maciej Gałgański, owner of the brand Ego. Maciej brought some new rods for the field test. Robert Karlewski, organizer of the meeting, casting Ego Innovative Glass 8'6" 6 class rod with Tactical Skagit head. Here's my attempt, captured on the video: snap-c, snap-t and perry poke. After semi-official part, we went fishing. Robert agreed to be a guide, and shown me some his favorite spots. We drove to the spot, so-called "Straszna góra" (scary mountain).  It's a stretch with fast water, cobblestones, and submerged trees on the other side. It looks very "fishy", but we had no contacts. I found that Skagit line (either with DH or SH rod) is the best for this river. There are many obstacles, bushes, trees, high banks, and wading is very limited, so it'...

At Saturday 20 May, Vision Polska (hurch.pl) organized "Casting Day" - an event for fly fishing enthusiasts. Program of the day included -Demonstration of Vision gear: fly rods, lines, reels -Demonstration of various fly casts. -Session with instructor: cast errors corrections, fly presentation in various conditions -Beer, grilled sausages, barbecue. and it's all for free. I came the day before, and checked some my favorite places. At the spot across Maria Ligas hotel, there was mayfly hatch, and fish raised for insects from 20:00 till dusk. But I didnt get license for that day, so I just watched it. I stayed overnight at Maria's and started fishing on Saturday from 4.30. I prepared 2 rods : for short nymphing and for streamers. river level was 205 cm, and temperature around 11 C. In this deep hole, fish often stays close to the bank, and with short nymphing, it's easy to reach holding zone. After few casts I got one small trout on Polish wow...
