A day of nase fish
It was 3rd of June, Corpus Christi holiday. I woke up at 3:00, loaded into the car at 3:10 and arrived to Tylmanowa at 4:15. This is my personal speed record , 93 km for 1 h 10 min with average speed 89km/h.
The river dropped to 204 cm, with flow 45m3/s and temperature +10 C.
I started at the same place, where I got big trout in my previous visit. The story about it is here:
https://polishflyangler.blogspot.com/2021/05/pb-brown-trout-of-this-year.html
But, due to low water, there were less fish in this place. I caught 2-3 small trout, nothing really exiting.
Moved to other place, near sawmill. It's the same place, where we had guiding trip with Wojtek and Jaroslav two weeks ago. I fished the place, where I hooked and lost nase (świnka or pigfish in Polish).
It's a waist-deep run with moderate speed, and a lot of rocks on the bottom. I'd call that "boulder garden". It's tricky to fish because of many potential snags. Soon, I got a big fish. It was strong, and I was using 0,14mm tippet. I let it run downstream, then picked fish in the shallow water. Nice nase!!!
So cute! Look at this funny snout.
That was a great catch! Nase fish are gregarious, where's one there's many of them. I continued to use the same strategy, fishing current seam between calm and fast water.
In 10 minutes or so, I got another one. That's quite a success!
It looks like , i found a proper place with many of them.
Catch and release!
There was also third one, but it didn't hook reliably, and came off the hook. Bu the way, when nase fish hooked on the lip, it rarely come off, because this fish has very hard mouth, and hook securely sticks in it.
The "sawmill" site is very dedicated nase fish place. But, I also had a hope for big trout. I fished pockets upstream from sawmill run. I had couple of brown trout, but small and medium one.
This one was one of the biggest. Nothing really outstanding today.
After lunch time, I moved to "the first wall" site. The fishing became very weak. I caught only couple of trout in 2 hours.
Unfortunately, here I got into unlucky wading accident. The bottom near the wall is very slippery. When I reached waist-deep run, I lost my balance and fell into the water. My shirt, jacket, and underpants were all wet... don't mention the inside part of the waders.
So, I took a break to dry my clothes. The sun was very bright, it almost dried out in 40 minutes.
Later, I returned to the second wall. There I caught another nase fish, a small one. There's definitely a nase day today!
Another cute fish released!
This nymph, barely resembling cased caddis, was a winner:
I noticed that mayflies started to hatch. I switched to dry fly rod, in attempt to catch a brown trout on mayfly imitation. Unfortunately, fish were lazy and rarely rose for mayflies. I didn't get any.
I drove to another location, wide smooth run.
Here's potentially good place for streamer or wet fly. I used my double hand rod, and caught only one trout on streamer. It was a small fish.
I slept only 3 hours today due to early start. So I was already tired, and decided to return home. But it was a great day with few great catches. Two big nase fish made my day.
