Windy day on Poprad
Tadaaam! Another trip to Poprad. Water is low, 120 cm and 9,85 m3/s at Stary Sąсz 97 cm and 6,27 m3/s at Muszyna.
This time, I took big streamers with me, in attempt to try to tease mighty Danubian salmon (Hucho hucho).
I arrived early in the river, and started to warm-up with nymphing and barbels. The place is good for barbels, but they didn't take.
Strong wind started to blow from south side, which made my fishing uncomfortable. I couldn't track my nymph, because the line developed a "belly" in the wind, instead of being straight and vertical.
I drove few kilometers upstream, to so-called "Lopata". There's quite long and deep hole, which looks like a proper place for Hucho hucho to live.
Here I tried my big streamers, attached to Guideline ULS 3D+ I/Sink3/Sink5 shooting head.
My Winston Trout spey rod not good candidate to this job. It's impossible to use water-loaded spey casts with such a big fly. I used only overhead casts , to land this heavy, soaked streamer on the far side of the pool.
This fly needs at least 9wt line, probably RIO Outbound Short. I already have a plan of purchases, to my next holiday trip. 9wt single hand rod, and assortment of Outbound Short shooting heads, of different sink density.
I caught nothing on nymph, and nothing on big streamers. Time to change location.
I drove to Muszyna, only to discover that my favorite place is unusable, because of the wind. Sometimes, to drive close to the river, you need to cross the rail. Beware of trains!
I drove back to Zubrzyk train station. Here I found very nice run, which looks like proper barbel's water. But, unfortunately, it was impossible to do because of the wind.
To get to the river, you need to cross the rail, again.
I tried couple of another places, but my patience exhausted. So I decided to drive home, without a single fish scored, even small one. Sad .... I need to prepare for winter Hucho season, and get more appropriate gear.
