A beautiful day on Dunajec

 First time in this year I came to Dunajec river.  The river was low and clear, 191 cm and 31,1 m3/s in Krościenko nad Dunajcem. I arrived to the river at 5:00 in the morning. 

The first location I tried was the end of Dunajec special C&R section in Ochotnica.  It was good in previous year during higher water level. We caught few big trout just under the bank. 

But , during low water this place changed. I think fish located to the middle of the river. I had couple of small trout on streamer. Nothing special.

Moved to Krościenko nad Dunajcem, to the stretch between new foot bridge and first wall.

New footbridge created great opportunity to fish both sides of the river. Actually, you can cross the river in wading boots too, but it can be dangerous, because of swift current and very slippery rocks in this area.

I fished the hole below the bridge with my trout spey rod multiple times. I rigged it with brown zonker on the end, and wet fly (Irish wingless style) on the dropper. I had few fish, but they all were less than 30 cm.

I fished the run under the bridge itself. There's riffle with fast current and rocky bottom. Should be a great place for trout to hide from current between these rocks.  

When I had enough of this place, I moved to the famous "Księdszowe pole". This is one of the most known and picturesque runs on the whole Dunajec river. 

Księdzowe pole is a 300-400 m long run, which starts from deeper hole below the rapids, then waist-deep run goes for the most part, and it become more deep and calm in the end section.  

The upper part is the most appealing for streamer, I had a fish there, and one was lost.

There I met group of foreign fishermen with the guide. I talked with them quickly and moved to another spot, decided to leave this beautiful place for their entertainment. 

After coffee break at Orlen gas station, I jumped in the car, and drove few kilometres down the river.

I started from place called "wood store". It was great spot for nase fish, which I discovered year ago. But now , it was too shallow at the given water level. I had only one trout there. 

I walked further downstream, to the bend. It's another beautiful location on Dunajec. Not very popular, so you can find some solitude here.

I found a killer run there, with pocketwater and fast current. It looks very fishy. I used euro nymphing rod here. No fish takes were detected. I continued to move downstream. Somewhere about kilometer down there, I fished deep hole. I met fisherman there, he said fishing is very slow. I can say the same.

I had two trout in this hole. 

On the way back, I fished pocketwater section near the "bend" again.

Despite of no fish , it becoming my new favorite location.   I should spend more time here on my next visit.  

Later I fished "second wall" site, and returned back to the location where I began: near new foot bridge in Krościenko.  I had a couple of fish, also small ones.

I finished my fishing around 17:00.  I didn't count how many fish I caught, around 13-14. They all were small, in 25-30 cm range.  Not the best result I had on Dunajec.  But the atmosphere was very great.
