Guided tour on Podhale mountain streams
I booked a guiding tour with Wojtek Kudłacz, known as "Fly Fishing in Poland".
We planned to fish two mountain rivers in Podhale region of Poland: Białka Tatrzanska and Biały Dunajec.
First, we arrived to Białka. It's famous for it's crystal clear water, wild character and natural flow. Unlike most rivers in Poland, there's no hydroelectric dams on Białka.
I started to fish in very beautiful pool with turquise colored water. There were few takes, but only one fish landed successfully.
Wojtek taught me, how to hide myself and fish from low to the ground positions. Fish is very spooky in Białka due to very clear water and high visibility, especially on sunny days.
We moved downstream to the very interesting pool. Here , I fished from kneeling position, to stay low to the ground.
I had only couple of small trout there. River in this place has an outlet, which goes to hydroelectric power station. Remember, I said there's no dams on Białka? Actually, there is a small power station with dam, bu it is not on the main course of Białka. Small part of the river is diverted to the dam.
And there's a lot of fish in the pond behind the dam, too. But, fishing in the pond prohibited by the power station owner.
Fishing was not good on Białka. We caught only few small brown trout. We moved to other mountain river nearby - Biały Dunajec.
The first place we tried was near soccer field in Szaflary. There's a lot of pocketwater. Unfortunately, locals use river as garbage dump, and this is disgusting. It's painful to see so many plastic bottles along the bank of such beautiful river. Wojtek did some cleaning , before I started to fish.
We didn't catch anything there, despite of promising look of the water.
Next place we tried was bridge near village Biały Dunajec. There's very interesting stretch, with cascade of rapids and small waterfalls.
There's some big trout hiding under these rapids. Should be there, i think
Despite of attractiveness of this place, I caught only one small grayling.
Thanks to Wojtek and that trip. I discovered for myself many new places, which I visited later alone (with better results :-) ).
