Skjern diaries Part 5. Birthday gift

29th was my birthday and I expected a gift from Mother Nature, you may guess which one . But Nature understood me not in the way I expected. Every day is a gift of life, isn't it?

I got one day license for Association of 1926 part (Skarrid to Clasonborg). River is smaller there, so I primarily used my 11' trout switch rod. Actually, I found only one place, when my big DH rod 14' is usable . The rest is too small.

This whole stretch is very beautiful. Some parts look like somewhere in England - similar to surroundings in Oliver Edwards' fly fishing films. 

River also looked quite shallow in many places, so my big tube flies were left in the car. I primarily tried small featherwing flies on double hooks, similar to "Silver doctor" variant pictured.

First place I fished in, looked more like a regular trout stream. I had some bites from what I think was small brown trout.
There was no fish strikes in first spots, so I moved to next one.

I fished exactly the same place, no bites. Meanwhile, my boot, fixed with duct tape, started to fall apart.

So I returned to the car, and moved to Ahlergaard/Pumpen site.

There I met with Svend Erik Øgendahl , who helped me with quick casting instruction, and guiding session near Pumpen.
I switched from Guideline I/S3/S4 to 3D+ F/I/S2, which is much easier to cast, and makes less splashes on the water.
I thought that my lack of fish bites can be contributed by (bad) casting of sinking line, which is a bit clumsy, and may scare all fish off.

But, I saw that people with bad casting technique (even worse than mine) still catching salmon - after 2-3 false casts with lot of splashes, they had a bite on 4th. Maybe it's just right place, or matter of luck, or very angry fish which will bite whatever swims nearby... who knows.

Svend Erik, thanks for free guiding session, which was I believe, a birthday gift . Very much appreciate that.

Also, in the evening, my host prepared special dinner for me, with homemade grilled burgers. So tasty!
