Streamer vs Euro nymph. Friendly competition on Dunajec

In this trip to Dunajec river I was not alone. Jaroslav, my friend from Belarus, joined the company.

I gave him my Euro nymphing rod, Traped Guide Nymph 11' 3wt. I myself used double handed rod Winston boron iiith microspey 11' 4wt, and SA skagit intermediate line.

We started at Gołkowice.  The river was 163 cm, and  40,9 m3/s. Water was a bit coloured, but quite fine.

First fish came very soon on black wooly bugger. Also, there were more smaller ones.

I noticed Jaroslav played big fish in the rapids. It was a hard fight on 3wt rod.  I came for help, and netted this beauty. I think it's 50 cm.

Interesting, that it took very small black nymph, in shallow riffle.

There was many takes by small trout. But I wanted something bigger, like Jaroslav had.
We moved to another water, fast, with deep pockets between the rocks. Ideal water for Euro nymphing.

But, there was nothing on nymph in this place. I got one rainbow trout on streamer, and couple of small browns.

Then we moved back to the first place, where we started.  Jaroslav caught another big trout on nymph - on blood worm larva imitation.  Nearly 47-48 cm.

I was jealous, my fish were mostly small. Nothing suitable for photo session.
But soon, I got this one.  Much better, although smaller than first fish caught by Jaroslav.

The place was exhausted. We changed location to Mostki hole.  There's deep hole, which is good for nymphing in my opinion. But Jaroslav got no strikes at all. I pulled out two small trout.  Not what I expected.

Fishing became slow, and we decided to take a break. We drove 29 km to Krościenko nad Dunajcem, and had a lunch in the local restaurant.

After lunch, I suggested that we visit another my favorite place - beginning of the first wall.
Water level was 195 cm, flow 33,8 m3/s.
Last time, I hooked 10 fish in one hole. But today, it was very slow.  Also, water in this section of the river was dirtier, with floating pieces of grass.
I  got only one small trout from this place.

Next place we tried was Księdzowe Pole.  It is rated the most beautiful places on all Dunajec C&R section. But for me this site was unlucky, I never caught there anything significant, only couple of small fish.

I started from upper pool and moved slowly downstream, swinging black wooly bugger with orange head. First fish was small.  I continued. Cast, step down, strip, swing, cast.  At the end of the swing something grabbed my fly . Yees, that't the big one!  I picked my running to the reel, and reeled fish to the bank.  After few hits and misses I netted it on shallow water. Wow, that's a big trout from Księdzowe Pole.  Finally this happened, I broke the "cursed place" stereotype.

Jaroslav saw me fighting with fish, and came soon to make me a photo session.

And, she goes!

There were no other takes in this place.  Nymph was not productive at all.

We walked downstream to second wall.  There's small island in the middle, and we crossed river to the left side.

There was nothing near the wall as well. I got only one small trout.

We were tired in the end of the day, and returned to the car. That was enough fishing for both of us.
I won the competition by fish numbers, but Jaroslav got biggest fish of the day.
