Summer in October
I arrived to the river , with hope of good hatch. Water level was 106 cm, flow 5,6 m3/s.
Unfortunately, water was dirty, and there was a lot of algae carried by the current.
I spotted some decent fish from the bridge, in 40-50 cm range. Probably they were rainbows. I tried to seduce them with tiny emerger, with no success.
Then I decided to take break of fishing, and have some running exercise. Sport and fitness is another my passion. I ran 5 km along the river, then returned to the spot. Then I changed dress and continued fishing.
Surprisingly, there was only two fishermen apart me, on the whole river stretch. Quite rare thing, there's usually crowded spot.
I started with nymph in the rapids. Soon I got two fish strike, but both are lost. They were average brown trout. But I wanted to catch rainbows in particular. Brown trout is now spawning and they are undesired catch in this time of year.
Fishing was slow, I walked slowly along the river, watching the water . Then I noticed big splash under the far bank. Oh, big trout! Let's try here.
Another cast, fish hit the fly very fiercely. That's a nice size fish! I brought it closer and found it is brown trout! Big and fat. That would be a success in any other time of year , but not now. I'm feeling guilty like im a poacher. That's a nice cock fish prepared to spawn.
I released him very gently, and he run away.
The hatch progressed and near 15:00 or so it was at the peak of intercity. There were big yellow-green mayflies , and tiny grey ones. Fish were taking only grey imitations, tiny on hook 18-22.
I noticed more fish activity on the far side., just near the bank.
Two casts, and fish hit the fly. Brown trout again.
I caught only 4 fish, two decent and two small ones.
Then I decided to leave "crime scene", to avoid more damage to precious native brown trout.
But weather was so awesome and surroundings are so colorful. I enjoy this time of year a lot.
