Stockers bashing, fish on every cast

Warm days offer great possibilities for fly fishing. I checked weather forecast, and took day off in the middle of the week to go to Dunajec river. 

Air temperature was +15 C, sunny. Dunajec level at Krościenko 197 cm, 36,9 m3/s and temperature + 6 C. At Gołkowice 175 cm and 42,8 m3/s respectively.

When I arrived to the river, I noticed that I forgot fly box with streamers at home. I had two rods with me: T&T Contact II for Euro nymphing and Winston Biii TH-MS for trout spey. But I didn't have proper flies for it.

I called to Wojtek, local guide in Krościenko, who runs a fly shop near the river.  I bought assorted streamers: natural brown zonkers, black and white woolybuggers.  

First spot I tried was Park Linowy. There's new footbridge erected, but still not finished. 

I attached natural brown zonker and started to swing it down and across. It was attacked by fish on every cast!  Fish were small brown trout, 22-25 cm. Probabyl stocked recently in big quantity. They were so angry and attacked any fly dropped into the water.

It was constant action, but most fish came off the hook easily.  

This particular run is my favoruite for trout spey. In the beginning it's slow and deep. But tailout is shallower and faster, I used Guideline 3D ULS Float/Intermediate/Sink 2 line, which is very nice for runs not deeper than 1 m.  

I returned to the car to take my second rod. On the parking I met 3 fishermen. I told them I caught only small fish. They shown me a photo of 45 cm brown trout. Caught on nymph.  I rigged my Euro rod with 2 nymphs: big brown imitation of caddis larva, small green kind-of-scud pattern. 

I fished it slow and deep. Oh, fish on!  Much bigger than those little guys on streamer. That brown took small green nymph.  Interesting!  Small fish on 4 cm length streamer, but bigger trout on tiny nymph. 

  Thomas & Thomas, despite being 3wt rod, has enough power to fight trout in fast current.

And release!  

I hooked 50 or 60 fish in one place. I didn't count.  Few time I even hooked two fish at the same time on two nymphs.

It's really funny, when it happens. 

Now It's a good time to change location and search for something bigger.

I drove to so-called t. Księdzowe Pole. This place on Dunajec is quite famous. It's one of the most beautiful fishing sites on the river.

But fishing on it is not easy. The bottom covered with very slippery cobblestones, you feel like walking on an ice skating rink.  Wading staff is highly recommended.  Second thing is that site is quite far from the road, and there's no convenient parking.  I left my car on the bus stop, and walked across the field to the river. 

I covered large part of the run with my tout spey rod and streamer. I had only two takes, and fish came off.  Later, I switched to Euro nymphing. Then I caught 5 or 6 fish on the nymph.

This one took on black woolybugger. 

I fished until 18:00. In the evening it became quiet, fish stopped to bite. 

It was a nice refreshing trip after two weeks of rain. Dunajec getting back into shape.
