Great day on Dunajec, big świnka or nase fish

Dunajec is great fly fishing destination, where you can always catch something in any time of the year.

I loaded my car with all my gear - rods for streamer, nymphing and dry fly. But I never had a luck with dry fly in the summer time. It's more a big thing in spring. In the mid-summer my main methods are streamer and nymph. In streamer fishing I like the dynamics and pace. Euro nymphing looks like more passive, but with it you can catch more than a trout.

I started to fish with nymphs in a hole below adventure park in Krościenko nad Dunajcem. This place is particularly famous for many swinka ("pigfish"), or nase.  When I arrived to the spot, it was occupied by family of mallard ducks. But they didn't mind my presence.

After few small brown trouts, I had a snag on the bottom. I was ready to break off my fly, but "snag" started to move. It's a big fish!  I played it carefully, even ran a little bit downstream to avoid breaking off the fish. And it safely landed in my net. Nice specimen!

I caught a 3 in the morning in the same place. All big, 45-50 cm.  It's a hard fighting fish, especially on the fine leader.

One fish I hooked was very big, and I didn't land it. It pulled downstream like a train. I didn't see the fish and can't bring it to the surface. I ran after it, then fish came off the hook.  Don't know what it was, the river kept it's secret.

All nase fish were caught on the nymph, infamously caught in Poland "gangrena". Despite of ugly name, it's very effective, especially in turbid water.

Interesting, that all nases were caught early in the morning. As the sun raised, time of brown trout started.

Dunajec is full of brown trout, and you can catch them everywhere - in riffles, in pools, in the pocketwater. Pocketwater is the most fun in the summer time.

Interesting catch I had on nymphing rig. There was a strike of fish. I set the hook. Small trout! But when I started to pull fish, in the middle it became twice heavy. What? There's second trout on the second hook, and it is much bigger. I brought both of them to the net.

Nice double! One of those exciting moments, why I do love fishing. You never know, what's on the other end.

That was one of my best trips in Dunajec. I caught may fish, both on nymph and streamer. The biggest were nase on nymph.

Let them swim, and catch again. See you next time.
