Bóbr in October. Part 1. A warmup

Couple of months ago I was invited by Igor Glinda to take part in 2-day double hand casting masterclass. Igor and his wife Gosia run "Tartak nad Bobrem" - rural hotel in the picturesque valley of the river Bóbr. This place often chosen for fly fishing events and training courses.  This one was a two-day double hand rod spey casting training course. It was provided by two-handed casting instructor Piotr Talma.

River Bóbr located in the western part of Poland, near city Jelenia Góra. It is 375 km from my home. The road took 4 hours, with short stop in McDonald's somewhere in the middle. Biggest part of the route was 4-lane motorway A4 with speed limit 140 km/h, so it was quite easy. Only the last 60 km was through some winding rural roads.

When I was already at my destination, 8 km from Tartak, I decided to check river Bóbr, and stopped at the bridge to look to the water. The river was so nice and inviting, so I decided to stop there for fishing.

Bóbr was running low, 18 cm and 3,5 m3/s at Pilchowice dam
I parked my car in the pocket near the road, and checked the river. The water was so calm, smooth like a mirror, and there were fish raising. I was very excited, and assembled my rod for dry fly.

There were some takes, but fish fell off the hook. It was small graylings.
I moved to the riffle near the bridge. There was fast current. I decided to switch to long nymphing.
The way I fished nymphs was similar to classic wet fly swing - cast across the current, feed flies diagonally downstream, until the whole rig stops on the dangle.

I used caddis pupa imitation as bottom fly, and small brown micronymph on the dropper.
Graylings preferred micronymph. I caught few, mostly small ones. This was the biggest.

But trouts preferred caddis pupa on bigger hook. Also, most fish were small. This one I caught on black wooly bugger,

I continued to drive along the river to my destination. Checked couple of spots near the road.

There's abandoned railway station Nielestno, which drawn my attention. I stopped and explored the area around.

It looks like the railway line closed many years ago. The rails are rusty, and tracks are overgrown with vegetation. But, it according to photos on the Internet, there was railbus running on the line on weekends until 2016.

I went down to the river near the bridge. The river is shallow in this place, mostly knee-deep.
I hit the banks with black wooly bugger. Had three violent bites by brown trout, but all fish were lost.

It was nearly 18:00, so I stopped fishing and drove to the hotel. There should be dinner for participants starting at 19:00.
